West End Rivers I Fish

Guided Fishing on the Majestic Olympic Peninsula Rivers near Forks Washington

All together the five rivers provide over 100 miles of fishing, and each river has its own personality. The rivers except for the Hoh and Clearwater are tributaries of the Quillayute River system. These rivers are noted for having the healthiest stocks of wild winter steelhead in the Pacific Northwest, plus great runs of coho and chinook salmon.

To the south of Forks are the rainforest rivers - the Hoh and the Clearwater.

HOH

The Hoh is located south of Forks and its water is glacial, sometimes clear, sometimes turquoise or emerald colored, sometimes brown. Log jams along the Hoh provide excellent pockets of fishing, especially good steelhead fishing. The Hoh is known to meander around.

BOGACHIEL

The lower end is wide and easy to navigate in a float boat.

SOL DUC

I grew up fishing here, a stretch of the river is within walking distance of my home. There are rapids and rocks in the river, with some rapids. This is the first river to clear up after a storm, and the last to go out. There is a spring chinook run, and sockeye salmon show up in June and July; summer coho arrive in August and September.

CALAWAH

The Calawah has Rough water, you need some experience rafting to go down it. The river runs along the north border of the town of Forks. There’s a summer hatchery here of steelhead.

CLEARWATER

The Clearwater is located south of Forks, beyond the Hoh. It has ledges, lots of pockets to fish in and pools.
